MAY 2010 : NICE GUIDELINES ON LUTS PUBLISHEDIn May the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) published Clinical Guideline 97 "Lower urinary tract symptoms. The management of lower urinary tract symptoms in men". As far as laser treatments for BPH were concerned, the Guidelines effectively recommended HoLEP as the preferred technique, and advised against vaporisation techniques (unless performed as part of a randomised controlled trial that compares the technique with TURP). This means that the Auriga XL System from Lynton Surgical is the ideal system for complying with the Guidelines when treating BPH, with the added advantage that it is also an extremely effective pulsed laser system for lithotripsy. A copy of the Guidelines on LUTS can be downloaded from here. |
